Vodafone Roaming Rates

The new rate reductions regarding voice calls and data roaming that were previously proposed by the European Commission will be put into effect on July the 1st 2010. The goal of the applied measures is to first of all normalize mobile communication returns, and secondly to further encourage mobile subscriber broadband mobile internet surfing.

These measures are fully aligned with the European Commission's long term broadband strategy and will be introduced to each European Union country member through the associated National Regulatory Agency or NRA.

The New Mobile Communication Rates

For an outgoing roaming voice call, the rate will be reduced by 10% and effectively becomes .39 Euro per minute while incoming roaming calls are reduced by 20% effectively standing at .15 Euro per minute. An outgoing Short Message (SMS) remains at .11 Euro.

Data roaming internet transactions are also reduced with a default upper limit of 50 Euro. Once this limit is reached internet access is automatically put on hold to ensure and increase mobile broadband subscriber awareness with respect to their current charging status.

Upper Threshold for Data Roaming

A particular mobile broadband internet subscriber has the option of specifying his or her default upper charging limit at a higher or lower level than the default 50 Euro threshold.

The European Commission measures imply that mobile communication service providers operating within the country members of the European Union must necessarily notify a particular subscriber once the subscriber's data roaming costs reach 80% the threshold value. So if the threshold value is say 100 Euro, the subscriber will receive notification from the respective operator when the subscriber's costs reach 80 Euro.
